Press release October 2008:
Blog community launches for businesswomen
A new blogging community for women in business and leadership, called flokka, (Icelandic for ‘group’) has been launched in New Zealand.
Membership to the community is free and allows members to start their own blog, or link to their existing blog. Members can also create their own profiles and connect with other members through social networking tools. The site also includes over 300 articles for women in business.
“Blogs are a hugely powerful business communication device and most businesses overseas understand that a blog is an integral part of their marketing and branding strategy, as well as a common sense way of getting closer to customers,” says founder and publisher Fiona Powell. “From the Fortune 500 companies right through to the Mom and Pop businesses, they’re blogging!
“But blogging takes a lot of time and effort,” says Fiona. “Belonging to flokka, which is a community of blogs, makes the blogging experience more fun and less isolating and is a valuable way for busy women in business to leverage their blogging efforts, because we help raise their profile and increase the traffic and readership to their blog.”
“There are lots of online communities and sites for women about fashion and lifestyle, which are loads of fun, but many women are looking for more depth, more thought leadership and insights and powerful questions that generate conversation and lead to action to shape our future,” says Fiona. “So while Flokka has an inward focus for each member about personal growth and developing and promoting their business, it also has an outward community focus of sharing and supporting each other, and doing business in a way that influences our world in a positive way - one blog voice at a time!” says Fiona.
